Nap time was over, and it was reasonable to believe that the children would need to be woken up to get on with the day. I entered the boys' bedroom and did not see Kian in his bed. Instead I spotted a shadow in the window, spanning the frame like an X through the blinds. It was the boy not sleeping, but rather observing the activities on the other side of the pane while standing in the windowsill. Good thing we do not live in a multi-story home!
