First Day of Kindergarten!

Karis is ready for her very first day of school. She was dressed before anyone else, and is just rearing to go. An exciting day for her, yet a bit unnerving as well. But be that as it may, Karis can't wait for it all to begin...

Kindergarten Open House

This afternoon Kian had an opportunity to visit his Kindergarten classroom and meet his new teacher. He brought his backpack and all of his school supplies, and started to explore. The eager boy went from table to table doing puzzles, writing his name - discovering the restroom and the smart-board along the way. When the sreen did not interact the way he expected, the five-year-old concluded it was not so smart after all. There was even time for a book. Some of his classmates stopped by as well, and Kian did not shy away from greeting any of them. A big smile stayed on his face throughout. His favorite thing was exploring the art table and creating a new drawing - nothing could distract him from his craft. His brother also tagged along, and watched from the sidelines as Kian moved around the room that had changed quite a bit since he had left it a year and three months ago. I think he was quite proud of his kid-brother. So much new to experience...

Krocs

As a special treat for going to Kindergarten round-up, we went to a store to buy Kobe some new summer "krocs" and let him pick out which ones he wanted. When we got there, we discovered that they were on sale for nearly half the price (generic ones) so $5.99, and decided to get a pair for Kian and Karis as well. Of course they are modeling them in the picture. We had a hard time getting them to take them off, and Kobe even wore his to bed! I love it when they appreciate something so much!

Kindergarten Round-Up

Children who will be attending kindergarten in School District 318 in 2008-2009 and their parents were all invited to attend Kindergarten Round-Up at Murphy Elementary. And we did with Kobe.

Wide-eyed and bushy-tailed we showed up at the doorsteps at the public school to see what was going on. This was supposed to be an opportunity to learn about the district, the kids, the teachers, the other parents, the principals and class-rooms. What happens when everybody shows up and all is crammed into a small space? Organized chaos. Kobe went from table to table meeting the people of his potential new existence coming up in a few months.

Leaping from table to table, in and around other eager children and their nervous parents, he was able to do the tasks given to him - like counting pegs, writing his name, pointing his abc's, sorting sea creatures, and impressing teachers. We then toured two kindergarten classrooms to see what they might look like. The tables were short, the chairs many, and the computers were macs. Kobe was intrigued by the decorations handmade by his peers, and spotted numbers and alphabets. He was offered a ride in the school bus, but he declined. Kobe would rather walk to the car with his parents.
