Spiders and Butterflies

Lunchtime. The older kids were returning with Mommy from watching eagles, hawks, and owls at the middle-school. Kobe walked in excited and hungry, and the other two followed in his heels smiling big. There was something on their cheeks. It was a small piece of art, a spider for Kian and a butterfly for Karis. They were very proud of their little souvenirs.

Picture of the Week

I shot "Match Point" in front of a dripping faucet with a 300mm telephoto lens to get separation between the match and the water. I only had a second to get the shot before the flame devoured the wood. Turned out pretty good, I especially like the warm/cool contrast...

Snoopy - a Regular Jackson Pollock...

I knew that my middle-children would never do anything as exquisite as this, so I sent them off to bed. Occasionally I have heard of monkeys and even elephants doing this sort of thing - painting contemporary non-representational expressionistic post-modern pieces of enjoyment, but never a common pet dog. He must have figured out just where to find the paint, open the tube, skillfully placing globs of it on the improvised canvas - then handing the yellow tube to my daughter, and a brown Crayola to my son - because after all the dog still is too modest to take the credit for himself. I was so proud I sent him outside to play in the snow, while I cleaned up the mess...

Picture of the Week

"Golden Reach" is a photograph that was taken last Summer and submitted to an online photo contest. It did not get many brave reviews, but the colors and the shallow depth of field makes it stand out. Just a small reminder that spring is on its way...
